The “VP” is found on just about every 1892 Winchester long guns for sale online and 1894 barrel I have seen from the start to the tip of production, bridging the date for the appearance on the “WP”. Then why the addition of your “WP”—I confess I'm no history buff, just curious regarding the reasoning to the “WP”.
Into the best of my information, when you find a pre-1905 Winchester with a “WP” proof on the barrel, although not to the receiver, someone other than Winchester swapped the barrel.
